I took with my lensbaby iPhone lens. I would greatly appreciate some constructive criticism as how I might have done this differently. Does this work or no? Not that I can repeat this exactly, my model was a tourist from Texas who stopped briefly to view Shoshone Point at the Grand Canyon yesterday. The winds were rather significant, about 15mph with gusts up to 25-35mph.
I love this as is. But I can imagine a sharp detail to make it even more interesting. Not necessarily her head but for example her shoe. Also the composition could be a little less ‘standard’. A bit more sky and the tourist a bit more to the right for example.
@mastermek Thank you. The phone does not offer great viewing outside due to sun glare but I agree perhaps a lower perspective might have helped or be interesting.
Having spent every weekend I could for ten years camping at The Canyon, I think it is a great subject. With my experiences at The Canyon, I think the butte in focus tells a great story to me, at least, of the magic of The Canyon, an putting yourself into that place. Sorry I could only do one fav.
@byrdlip You are so very very kind, thank you so much for the fav. I am so glad that you think there is magic in the canyon. I feel so connected to it and extremely grateful for the time I get to spend there. Its beauty is truly astounding.
@maskerade I believe that you are right. I like the effect of a swirl but maybe with the big camera lensbaby, I can get better focus. I didn't take many shots since this was my first time at this spot in the canyon.
@overalvandaan So very grateful for the fav. This spot is high and on the edge but it isn't a shear drop which there are several. I sat with a friend at this spot for a very long time, I think about 4 hours. The peace and quiet was engrossing.
@blueberry1222 Thank you, it does have charm as is but I wanted to hear what others might suggest. This community is so supportive and I thank my lucky stars on landing here.
This takes me back to 2003 when we had our great American Oddessy. We booked a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. The wind was horrendous and the 45 minute flight was curtailed after 15 mins. The helicopter kept ‘dropping’, dry scary. My husband was really nauseous!
When we got back the winds were so strong that they lashed the rotors to the ground for safety. A wonderful, if scary experience!
@ceilidh I am so happy that you were able to see the canyon. It has a sense of power and humor, the winds can be completely UN-nerving at times. I am just so enthralled by it.
I love the twirley effect it makes the person look like s/he is encapsulated right in the middle of it. I also like the lack of any focus point. For me this picture isn't about that I don't think.. It's about everything being in different states of blur and twirl and yet there is peace to be found in the centre of it all. A reflection of life maybe----?
I read all the comments and agree with all of them even the contradictions to each other! I like the dizzying sense of being on the top edge of a precipice
