This is a koala in the wild.
Corky has featured lately with her joey peeking out of the pouch. No peeking today! This is a very typical koala sleeping position - rolled in a ball. What had me laughing was how she is holding on to the fine branch in front of her with her hind foot - clever girl!
Thanks so much for the huge number of comments on my photos, and I appreciate the favs too. :)
@amandal the joey is in her pouch Amanda. koalas typically curl into a ball to sleep very often. they are truly weird animals!!! :) @salza Sally you do kind of get used to seeing them curled or sprawled everywhere and don't think of it so much. however I will admit if I ride around the property and don't see any koalas I find myself looking around the ground under the trees ....
She can hold onto the branch with her foot, keep the joey safe in her pouch, and take a nap at the same time ... all while some distance from the ground! Happy nap, Corky! (Does the joey also nap when she sleeps, I wonder?) If that were me, I think my tailbone would be very sore when I woke up.
@pixiemac@pamknowler@888rachel@tellefella@mamadrum@elisasaeter@milaniet@ziggy77@paulaw@fayefaye thanks for all the kind comments and for enjoying.
They sure find need spots and it's amazing how they manage to sleep to deeply like this (low energy must help I guess)
Barb her white behind thrills me like you wouldn't believe as so many koalas suffer bladder infections and have wet dirty behinds and need urgent vet care when like that :)
