Day 1 of Grand Canyon Backpacking Trip.
If you look at the lower right corner of this shot you can see that the S. Kaibab trail takes you through a tunnel that leads you to the bridge. This bridge has a solid floor and the mules use it to cross the river to go to and from Phantom Ranch.
@dutchothotmailcom thanks Esther… as far as heights go two of the four people who went on this trip had some issue with heights… they were pretty bold to take on this trip since there are many places that could be considered pretty steep and a very long way down.
@ljmanning thanks Laura… once I crossed the bridge the Bright Angel campground was really close and it is where I spent two nights in the canyon.
@monikozi you know it looks like the trail goes that way… I can’t remember which way the trail went for us after crossing but I know we ended up going left after the bridge to get to the Bright Angel Campground.
@seattlite thanks Gloria… the Colorado was so impressive.
@corinnec Yep… it was about 7 miles down to the campground & almost a 5k foot descent. The guide indicated that past participants thought this was the most challenging day of hiking… but to me that was the final day when we ascended about 3700 feet.

@joansmor thanks Joan… it is a once in a lifetime view… in my case I do hope to go at least once more.
@wakelys thanks Susan… I thought it would be scary but it wasn’t at all. The silver bridge that has the open flooring is a little more intimidating.
@monikozi Yep… crossed right through that tunnel into the light… it is pretty short.
@mittens thanks Marilyn.
@k9photo thank you Kate… just wish you could have been with me to experience this.
Scared of heights too, so impossible to imagine capturing this.

@seattlite thanks Gloria… the Colorado was so impressive.
@pdulis thanks Peter.
@corinnec thanks Corinne… no drones allowed in the GCNP… this was taken while I was standing on the trail high above the bridge.
@onewing thanks Babs… the bridge was impressive and the Colorado even more so!
@jb030958 thanks Jennie… we spent 12 nights at the canyon this time and saw so much more… in the winter it is not as crowded at the South Rim.
@365projectorgheatherb thanks Heather.
@serendypyty thanks Cazzi… it was so spectacular… si glad I have the photos.
@rensala thanks Renee… I am fortunate that the heights didn’t faze me and I wasn’t sure about the bridges but crossing them was no problem.
