I drove my daughter's '73 VW bus tonight for the first time. It's been a while since I drove a standard but it all came back. No stalls or embarrassing moments. Some of you might remember how my husband surprised my daughter with it for her 16th birthday. Here's a full view of it: http://365project.org/kwind/365/2015-08-25
Very nice! I spent a lot of my childhood in an orange vw bus which my Dad owned for 25 years, I used to love pretending to drive it! Eventually I think I did drive it but only to the end of the road and back. They do take a bit of getting used to! Fabulous gift for your daughter :)
I remember her b day present last year.........what a cool key chain!
I can drive a standard too, I usually say if you can't find them, grind them!! Ha ha :)
I knew it was your daughter's bus the moment I saw the image. Nicely processed to look period correct. My favorite Aunt had a mid-60's VW bus, blue and white with a huge canvas sunroof and all the extra windows. We loved that thing!
@psychographer 😀 All-time besterest show in the entire universe!!!
Good question! Here in Aus we have manual amd automatic cars...and some really old ones and vans have the gear stick on the steering column. We call that "three on the tree"...as opposed to "four on the floor". Lol! I'm not sure if the American "stick shift" is the same as our manual or our three on the tree..?? @kwind ??
@tabbycat I've heard of "three on the tree" but never driven one. This thing is "4 on the floor" It was surprisingly easy to drive, The giant steering wheel felt kind of funny on tight corners.
I LOVE that van key chain!! Oh goodness- I go into panic mode when I have to drive stick. I can do it, but I'm petrified I'll get stuck on a hill (which has happened to me more than once). So needless to stay I avoid stick at all costs! Bravo for you!
Love it!!
