Here's another image of the salt Lake in Osoyoos taken from a helicopter. I have a thing for hearts and was quite excited to see the shape amongst the circles and ovals. If you didn't see yesterday's image, click back and see the lake from a larger perspective.
@leggzy Most of the water in the lake evaporates over the summer, revealing colorful mineral deposits. Large “spots” on the lake appear and are colored according to the mineral composition and seasonal amount of precipitation.[2] Magnesium sulfate, which crystallizes in the summer, is a major contributor to spot color. In the summer, remaining minerals in the lake harden to form natural “walkways” around and between the spots.
@pyrrhula If we ever get your way, I'll definitely let you know so we can have a visit. We went to Amsterdam a few years ago. Portugal is next on our list of 'big' trips.
Love the colours! I had to go back to this image as I stopped on my way home from the provincials and took a photo from the ground. No where near as impressive as this, and the colours were quite bland although it was an overcast day. Will post in a minute!
