After photographing four baseball games this weekend I wasn't in a camera mood today but when I spotted this fellow passing by I grabbed my lens! It was the yellow whale watching board that alerted me. When you see those zodiacs it means there's wildlife around. It took maybe a minute and then three whales popped up. A great show for the tourists! It was so close to the boat!!
@redy4et They have distance rules here too but I think the whales surprised them. I saw the boat but didn't see anywhales for a quite some time. The boat was slowly moving forward the whole time I was looking. Suddenly the whales were directly behind and then beside the boat. I suspect the captain thought they were ahead of them. I've been on several of these boats before and never gotten so close.
Wow -- that is close! Great timing on your part. Glad they weren't too much closer!! We once had a young whale swim under our boat -- I'm glad I didn't think too much about it at the time, but I guess it could have been a major disaster! We could see his outline fully and he seemed to be floating on his back.
