When I came across this on the towpath of the Gloucester to Sharpness Canal in Gloucestershire it worried me slightly. Firstly who would hide a lifebuoy inside a hedge, and how weathered it looked.
I could imagine throwing it out to save someone drowning, only for either the rope to disintegrate, or to watch the lifebuoy sink.
Is my imagination just overworking.
