A Elizabethan Gatehouse. by ladymagpie

A Elizabethan Gatehouse.

This is the entrance to Frocester Court, a 15th century building once visited by Queen Elizabeth 1st. It's built in the Tudor period and oozes English History.

One of the adjoining buildings is a Medieval Tithe Barn, One of the most important barns in England & best preserved. Late 13th century tithe barn, 186 ft x 30 ft with 13 bays & 2 projecting porches. Roof timbers date from 1525. It's still in use today by the estate farm.

Lovely shot. I seem to recall in the recesses of my memory that there are few true Tudor buildings remaining. Do they still collect tithes? LOL

Fantastic. I love the history of it. I visited England once but didn't see much of it really--mostly London and Brighton. It is very interesting and the home of some of my ancestors.
