Old Mill in the Valley. by ladymagpie

Old Mill in the Valley.

Another of my long distance shots from beside my favourite spring. Here we have another of the numerous old mills down in the valley by the river.

The one in the picture is Stanley Mill, built in 1813 for weaving of cloth. There has been a mill on this site since the 12th century and this one finally closed in 1990. A fantastic building inside with the original carding machinery and spinning mules. It's a grade 1 listed building so can't be pulled down. There are plans for fats to be built into the old building.

Interesting history and nice view!

I do like old mills, it seems to make sense to try to re-use them rather than demolish them; I hope it can be done with taste and grace

Mills do have so much character , although they are industrial they do not mar the landscape

What a great view. I wish we had the same respect for our old buildings instead of just tearing them down!
