Now I've put this lovely building in my look around the village series although I must admit it's more of around the area.
I found this wonderful building right beside the River Severn but on a small track. I knew nothing about it but it looked so grand. It has taken a bit of a search but I found out it used to be a pub called The Darell Arms.
Sir William Lionel Darell, who died in 1883, was the Rector of the village of Fretherne from 1844–78. He lived in Fretherne House and had built up a sizeable estate, even building a pub in the village and named it after the family.
It's constructed in mock Tudor style with two ornate gabled ends. The family's Arms is in the center of the roof, "Solar Virtus Vera Nobilitas" (Virtue is true Nobility).
