It's a hundred years since the start of World War 1 on the 28th of July 1914 and so many lives where lost from Cities, Towns and Villages. I had popped down to the local village church to replace one of my geocache containers, and whilst there I had a walk round the churchyard.
Among the very old gravestones this one stood out proud in white marble and definitely caught my eye. As soon as I walked over to it I realised that it was a fallen soldier from WW1 and was a man from this village of Leonard Stanley, it reads:
PO/14182 PRIVATE
F.R. WYMAN
ROYAL MARINE LIGHT INF.
2nd MARCH 1916 - AGE 29
Can I just add, Rest in peace brave marine, you did your village proud.
And little did this young Private know that 100 years later he would be honored by people from all over the world because of this photo. Well captured, Heather, and a fav for me!
nice tribute from you Heather ,I happened to notice some of these new/replacement stone in the Bedford cemetery.Guessing there has been a program to have these put in place.
