This may look an ordinary field, a row of old trees and a hillside behind, but several times a year there is always a bit of excitement with firemen, police an an ambulance.
So what could turn this peaceful place into a major incidents just a few 100 yards from my home. I have named this row of trees Flyers Folly and if you look closely the hill behind is almost a shear upright climb onto Selsley Common.
It is a mecca for hang-gliders who leap off the top and soar for ages above us, you may have seen some previous offerings: http://365project.org/ladymagpie/365/2014-07-16 Some have problems taking off or landing and end up dangling from this trees, hence the many rescues required.
I think I will keep my feet firmly on the ground thanks. Best viewed with a black background.
It certainly does look like an ordinary field, a row of old trees and a hillside behind - please could we have a photo of the next hang-glider to have a hiccup? Lovely composition.
Such an interesting shot with the hill so abruptly behind the trees. I think you should give it a go. I'd love to see a pic of you dangling from a tree. LOL
What a fabulous place. I'd love to soar over it. Years ago I took a class on a week' strip to Derbyshire. When we walked up Mam Tor people were launching themselves off the side . It was one of the most exciting, fascinating things I've witnessed. Only problem I couldn't see any hunky firemen down below!
