This is a view of the top half of the High Street in Stroud, a town near my home. I've captured it to show that our local council haven't a clue what is practical when they change it's use. It was late on a Sunday evening so not many people about.
Believe it or not this used to be one of the main roads through the town and although I agree that today it's a bit narrow for modern transport it holds happy memories of years gone by.
They have moved all the main vehicles to a town by-pass and turned this street into a pedestrian area, many towns have done this, but the stupidity of this here is the very uneven surface and the cobbles that for the elderly, or ladies with there heels have difficulty walking on. Many years of complaints have fallen on deaf ears, along with those who have also fallen or twisted their ankles. The bottom half of this street is even steeper.
A lovely old -fashioned looking street. Fav!! 😃. They've unpedestrianised part of our main street in town. Heaven only knows why!! Northampton will still be a rubbish town to shop in.End of another pensioner's rant!!
Full of character and very picturesque; however do agree with you re the practicalities and would go on to say bring on the ice and snow! There is a bridge in Durham so beautiful with its cobbles but in the wintry weather it is lethal!
Still nothing can take away from it being a beautiful shot
We were in Europe this summer and almost all streets in the places we visited were cobbled. I am blind in one eye to have to depth perception when I am walking on these. My husband's poor arm was clutched tightly on almost every walk about.
I totally agree our council have replaced bumpy ones with really smooth ones which are slippy when wet, but apparently they have them somewhere important in London they said, which makes it alright then!!!!!!!!!
@ianrm@kathiecb@congaree@pinkpaintpot Thank you all for your comments and FAV's. Would you believe that on Friday they replaced some of the blocks and it's worse than it was before.

@gilbertwood Thanks Denise, just to let you know that this is all modern stones, nothing older than 10 years.
