The restoration of the Stroudwater canal through the valley is going in bits and pieces. I don't understand why they don't start at one end and work their way through to the other end. I appreciate that there is some major work to replace a railway bridge and to unblock a road bridge.
The reason I mention this is because I was walking along a section of the canal that was still silted up and covered in reeds. Suddenly I came across this completely restored lock that looked wonderful and in full working order. Yet on the other side the canal it was back to full of reeds and unusable.
As a mechanical engineer I was fascinated by the lock gate workings and all the gears and cogs. If you can please view with the black background.
