Firstly thank you all for getting the Lilies of the Valleys on the pp page. This is my second of the week and it's all down to you, THANKS.
It's about time we looked at a saying or proverb, where it's come from and what it means. So it's "Knowing yer Onions", which I must admit I've put in a West Country tongue.
When you talk about someone knowing their onions you are saying that they are an expert in it's field and know everything about a subject. Such as a Professor or a Surgeon.
There are main theories to where this came from, The English grammarian and lexicographer Charles Talbut Onions was an editor of the Oxford English Dictionary from 1895 and continued to write reference works throughout a long and distinguished career, was this the sauce.
As for my photograph, well this is what happens if you don't harvest yer onions and they go to seed, just shows that vegetable can be as pretty as flowers.
I am sure you are out-standing in your field.
That is one thing we have not tried to grow, onions.
