You've had your Rolls Royce this week so now for the home. This is Nether Lypiatt Manor the recent home of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent but today more famous for it's ghost stories. It was a real picture this morning on the hills above my valleys.
Nether Lypiatt Manor was built in 1698 by notorious hanging Judge John Coxe. The Judge's son is said to have hanged himself in one of the rooms and it is his ghost that is rumoured to appear around the inside of the manor.
But the more notorious ghost is that of the Judge's treasured stallion and blacksmith. The blacksmith had been sentenced to hang but the judge said he would pardon him if he produced some perfect main gates for him, they are in the picture. The judge still hung him claiming he could see a fault. The blacksmith and stallion have been seen rushing through the main gates to the grounds as the anniversary of their deaths approaches around January each year. Another report says that the ghost of the smithy does not actually appear, but just unlocks and opens the gates.
I was driving along this lane in the 90's when a pair of horse riders approached, I slowed and said good morning before realising it was the Royal couple, there was a land-rovers a few yards behind them with security police at the ready. Best viewed with the dark background.
