Landmark Carbuncle. by ladymagpie

Landmark Carbuncle.

Going back to my collection of landmarks around the Five Valleys, I thought I would bring you our carbuncle on the landscape. This is Tricorn House situated on the main roads into the valleys. It was built in the 1970 as a hideous concrete block building, displacing some lovely historic buildings. There is a third section going backwards making it a three armed building.

It was own by the Government DHSS (Department of Health and Social Security) and was a place you had to go and sign on if you were out of work or on benefits. It closed almost 20 years ago and has stayed here as a blight in the landscape.

Smashed windows and neglected walls with ivy covering it. The new owners want to make it into an old peoples home - what a terrible idea with main roads all around it, a large roundabout and no gardens, the elderly would be prisoners in this place.

I feel very strongly about this eyesore which needs pulling down and that would make most people in the valleys very happy. Thank you all for get my spiders web onto the PP page, appreciated
Perhaps they should blow it up, which is what happened to our ugly bus station, earlier this year. I think it was voted the second ugliest building in the country!!

I hate it when they choose to erect a monster like this!

1970's architecture has a lot to answer for. It is ugly and gets worse with age. Whoever in their right minds would destroy historic buildings and replace them with an eyesore!

I agree, Heather, not a suitable location for an old folks home. Needs to be torn down.

Ah! Just like our ex police station which is now a pile of rubble! Why is it so difficult for architects to design a building of our time without it looking like an eyesore. The Georgians and Vctorians seemed able to manage it.

It doesn't look too bad here but we don't see all the damage. We had a hospital on a hill with gorgeous views - it closed down - broken windows, graffiti, rusting roof - they are finally going to pull it down after about 30 years!

A definite blight on your usually beautiful English scenes :(

Yes, ugly! Pull it down!

Bep
I hope the building will be pulled down asap!

I am usually not one for tearing down but in this case it sounds like that is what needs to happen

it will probably be back in fashion in a couple of years

Always sad to see beautiful historic homes and buildings replaced with concrete blocks and parking lots! You'll have to keep us updated as to what is decided for this building!

Hope the building does get demolished soon

Why, we ask, can't they pull it down & start again !
Think every town has one of these ugly buildings though.
You should start a petition Heather.......
