More Berries for the Birds. by ladymagpie

More Berries for the Birds.

Walking around an abandoned old primary school I noticed these unusual shrubs growing all around the playground. This worried me at first as surely they weren't here when young children were around as the berries could be poisonous and yet they looked so edible.

I didn't know what they were so contacted my flowery friend Angie who informed me that they were called Leycesteria Formosa or Himalayan Honeysuckle. They are very fast growing shrubs so must have taken hold after the school closed down.

The wind was blowing a gale as I tried to capture the berries and it took a few attempts not to get blurring. Thankfully the children aren't here these days but it's more berries for the birds. View with the dark surround.
Oh I am so glad you posted this! There is one of these shrubs near where I live and I have often wondered what it was. Thank you!
