Bridge with a Secret by ladymagpie

Bridge with a Secret

Today we have a couple of pictures of the same bridge taken from either side. You will also note that it was taken on different days of the year.

The two houses, the bigger one on the left and smaller on the right, hold a secret. There is a unmetaled country lane that crosses the Stroudwater Canal and goes between the two buildings which were lived in by canal workers.

The secret is that there is a dark tunnel that runs from one house to the other, under the lane and is part of the bridge structure. Now that would mean you had to get on with your neighbours wouldn't you.

Thank you for comments on the toilet roll, it seems that 90% go for over the top and forward with the others preferring to hang the paper down the back. Must give a mention to Joan Morvinson who reject either has hers stand in an old bed pan.

View with the dark surround.
Fantastic bridge & buildings. Love the way you have put the two shots together, Fav

Wonderfully captured. I very much enjoyed the history. I wonder how many times that tunnel was used (and why! )

A lovely canalside dwelling, apparently the design is a mystery too, and the bridge forms part of the two buildings. Great fact about the tunnel.
