Living on the Hills

This view which I took earlier in the year has many memories through my life and I will try to tell the related stories.

1. The dreaded school cross-country run includes the lane from bottom left to halfway up on the right. It then turns sharply and climbs back up a steep lane across to the woods top left. It was torture but as the teachers didn't come, we mostly walked this section with a crafty cigarette.

2. When I was looking to buy my first house I had a couple of viewings of that last house up near the wood. Because of the steep lane we didn't buy it, today it's worth a fortune for the view alone.

3. In the mid 80's I had been working up to 12/16 hours a day and had made myself very ill and off work. We lived in a home just off picture to the right and was walking along the lower country lane by the house with the solar panels. I collapse in the lane and was taken to hospital with exhaustion.

Perhaps it hasn't been such a place with happy memories, it's best viewed with the black surround. Thanks for all you comments, I do appreciate reading them.
Can see by the cows that hill is a lot steeper than it looks from this angle

Looks very like the view from my bed in Stroud hospital last week. I lay there thinking if only I had brought my camera!!

Lovely scene. The solar panels somehow takes some of the charm of the country-scape.

#2 woulda-coulda-shoulda will get you every time. sometime for the good, sometimes not.

Beautiful countryside, well captured! It's a lovely spot to walk down memory lane, even if all the memories aren't so lovely. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely shot and countryside Heather. I loved your comment about the 'dreaded' school cross country run. We had one of those too but I loved it. We ran around the Mound of Down an Iron Age fortification on the Quoile marshes. A place where lots of my plimsolls are lost!

An interesting part of your life's narrative, Heather. An excellent capture of this scene. So many places in our lives hold potent memories. I often go back in my past. Maybe too much!

A lovely scene. I can identify with your exhaustion: a very unpleasant state to be in.
