Highrise on a Hillside. by ladymagpie

Highrise on a Hillside.

You all know how much I love the old Cotswold stone cottages and houses that make up so much of our towns and villages in my area. Therefore I must admit that anything built among these building in the 60's and 70's I find horrible.

We are an area of hills and valleys so just think of the problems trying to build high-rise apartments or flat on the hills. Well they did master it and you will notice that at first it's 5 stories high, changing to 3 stories and finally 2 stories. The views are fantastic but I wouldn't want to live in little boxes stacked on top of each other like this.

Thank you for taking time to look at my captures, I may not like the building but it makes for an interesting picture from a lower road, and I'm still not in the bottom of the valley. View with the dark surround.
Builders should take into consideration of outside space, great POV!

Unusual that there are at least two open balconies, the rest being enclosed.

Nicely captured. Love your pov. It is an interesting building. At least those that live there have a nice view.

I love the old Cotswold stone cottages better!

I know they don't fit in in the Cotswolds but for city flat dwellers there are much bigger and taller blocks they have to live in. All kinds of social problems arise. At least these have a good view and ready access to wonderful countryside. I love the traditional stone cottages of course.

A really great viewpoint, Heather which shows off the angles and lines. Not too high rise!

I agree. These two of structures do not compare to older character buildings. Great POV for your shot.

Very typical of its time, and a necessary solution to housing problems of the time

I agree with you Heather. What they built in the 60s and 70s was modern slums. i much prefer the stone cottages

Yes these buildings really do destroy your beautiful old village!

Great capture and it reminds me of the 1960s song too.
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.

Nice shot. Not much to look at as far architecture goes though. We do have some building here built on the slope of our river valley

Nor would I ......but I have. Great pov to show the stepping up!!

I agree with Babs comment

You chosen an excellent POV .. The perspective is very interesting of these flats, how they have been built on a slope.

Interesting POV and a great shot but whoever let this and others like it through planning consent?

Great angle & shot.
I agree with you, I really dislike these types of buildings. Apart from being ugly, they have no character & you find them in every part of the UK. We have a lot of them here in Cambridgeshire.
Much better to see buildings built in local materials.
