This is obviously one of the grave stones I captured the other day, and although it's not a large one it fascinated me as it was in the form of a scroll. (Sorry for the play on words in the title).
With my interested in genealogy I decided to do some work and find out a bit of history of Emyla Barber. She was born in the Stroud valleys and was Emyla Pointing before marrying Robert Barber. She has been brought home to Stroud as she actually died in Wandsworth, London in 1894 where her husband was a Grocery Manager..
During my search I found another person studying her ancestors which included Emyla and have just made contact with her so that she can add my photograph to her tree.
I'm sorry to say I have a few much larger monuments to share with you, bet you're dying to see them. Thanks for all your comment's yesterday, you must all be chocoholics.
Great shot, unusual never seen a gravestone like that, so interesting. My brother once went out with a girl who loved walking around graveyards I admit they can be very interesting.
Emyla is a lovely old name. Its a good hobby to read gravestones and inscriptions in churches. you can learn so much.. Its nice that she was brought back home to rest in peace.
Fav for this picture, Heather.
