There is something fascinating about very old graveyards and this is one I've visited before. I;m using this picture as today it is sheeting down with rain and I'm not going out in it. At least my youngest Son Ross came to see me as It's his 46th Birthday today and he had his present ready..
It is such a shame that the graveyard seems to have been left wild, with long grass and weeds but it is a good habitat for the local wildlife. It was after I had walked among all these Victorian graves that I was informed that there were loads of snakes living here. Fortunately it was a cold dull day and they weren't basking in the sunlight, if I had seen one I would have died. That would have saved the cost of a hearse for my family as I would have been in the right place. Best viewed with the dark surround, can you spot any snakes!!
Thank you all so much for your lovely comments and FAV's for yesterdays farm picture.
I do love the old cemeteries. It could definitely use some upkeep, but the wild grass seems to go with the oldness of the stones. Nicely captured fav for me.
You do make me smile Lady M and that's particularly good on a day like today. I haven't been out taking photos either. It's a shame in some ways that this graveyard is so overgrown but actually I like it because it must be great for the wildlife, especially snakes!! Great capture.
It is sad that there is no one to remember those buried there. Reminds us how quick death can approach us all. Lost another high school classmate this week, usually I hear about it well after the fact, but it made national news so it was rather a quick reminder of life.
And no, even with my glasses on, I couldn't spot any snake ;-)
