Well after yesterdays problems with Jackdaws and Starlings I think I've come up with Lady Magpie's gadget to stop the *******. I have threaded a piece of string in a triangle shape between the three chains. I then placed this flowerpot on top of the string and it's held in place by those three chains.
The 3 inch gap allows the small birds in to feed and has totally confused the Jackdaws so they have given up. Now I thought that I had also stopped the Starlings, but I spotted one hooked on to the rim of the basket and then bending it's head sideways to get it under the flowerpot rim. It may not try again but if it does then this Lady Magpie may have to add additional crafty gadgets.

@gilbertwood You obviously need a larger flowerpot to put over your apple trees, or chop the trees down and the starlings won't get to your apples, in fact nobody could get at your apples.
