I had one of my imaginary conversations with this swan down on the canal. It's neck and behind it's head was filthy and so I accused it of not having a proper wash this morning. It reminded me of when the children were allowed to have their first bath on their own, with the words of, "Don't forget to wash behind your ears, I'll check".
I think the swans reply would have been something like this. "Excuse me, have you tried dipping your head in this water, it's filthy, give me some fresh bread and I won't need to duck under again". Needless to say we didn't have the conversation and it swam past me majestically.
