Today was my cleaning ladies day and I spent yesterday evening and early morning getting everything put away and tidy for them. It amuses many of my friends who ask, "You tidy up and clean ready for the cleaning ladies", well yes because I like everything Shipshape and Bristol Fashion.
Have you thought were that comes from, quite an unusual phrase. Well it originates from about 1840 and the sailing ships that came up to Bristol Docks before they had a basin lock. The river has the second highest tide rise and fall in the world and when the tide went out the ships would rest on the mud and tilt over on their keels. For this reason the captain would order everything to be stowed away neat and tidy so they didn't roll around. Hence the captain would shout that he want everything Shipshape in the Bristol Fashion.
These three boats on the nearby canal shouldn't have any problems like that but I hope they are kept neat and tidy, Well I would but that's just me and my ex-Navy training. View with the dark surround.
We women are funny that way, tidying up is not the same as actual cleaning so I completely agree with you, can't let the side down! Good explanation to go with your story!
I find that rather odd! Why would you clean up for a cleaning lady - that's putting the cart before the horse :) I dislike housework, so if I had a cleaning lady I'd have a smile a mile wide :)) Nice capture too!
@gilbertwood It's more a tidy up than a clean up Denise, they come every Tuesday fortnight, It's sort of putting things in draw, Filling the dishwasher and leaving out a couple of clean cups for them. I could write a list.
