Yesterday afternoon I was sat out in my front garden right next to my new Insect Bee & Bee. I noticed this bee going back and forth to the same wooden tube and it was fascinating.
Mind you I was a bit annoyed, it hadn't booked in regardless on whether it could with the Covid-19 regulations. but I decided to let it stay as I took lots of pictures and video's.
This is known as Solitary Bee and as per it's name lives alone without hives etc. In fact this is a lady bee who searches out a nest before finding a male partner for a bit of hanky panky, either on top of a leaf or on the ground. The male buggers off never to be bothered again, sounds familiar.
This female has laid a single egg and leaves some nectar also in this tube, and spends the day going backwards and forwards sealing the tube up. Would you believe she lays up to 30 eggs in various locations. I bet she's exhausted after all that.
So there you are, a bit of nature for you and you can tell everyone that even solitary bees can be busy bees. Check it out with the black background.
Such a wonderful tale to tell us and a beautiful illustration of your lovely B&B - Mrs B has certainly found a lovely resident to lay her eggs ! . The little B&B will give you hours of pleasure this summer ! and us amused ! fav
