When I managed to get out the other day and I stopped to capture the big mill. I and then moved on to another one just a few hundred yards down the canal. Looking up I suddenly noticed that the church and the common near my home was in few.
This is All Saints Church, or Selsley Church, and has a big connection to the Ebley Mill that I captured a couple of days ago. One of the main owners of the mill was Samuel Marling, who paid for the Marling school to be built for boys.
Just left of the church is Stanley Park with a large mansion owned by the Marling family. It was Samuel that got the church built in 1862 in the Italian Gothic style with what's called a saddle style roof. The other famous influence in this church is the stained glass windows by William Morris.
Up to the right is Selsley common where cattle are allowed to roam free for 8 months of the year, as a car driver you have to keep your eyes out for them as you drive along the road across it. They don't get out of your way and often stop in the middle of the road and just staring at you. Blowing your horn doesn’t help either; you just have to be patient.
My home is just off to the right below the common and as I've said before I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
