Standing Guard. by ladymagpie

Standing Guard.

This metal bridge crosses the old canal and you enter a factory behind the camera. During the Second World War this factory produced secret parts for the radars that helped to win the wars.

Being a very important factory this building by the bridge was a guard house where the army protected the bridge and the factory. Note at the very top there is a machine gun place and the railings the watch tower. Fortunately the Germans didn't arrive.

Today it's used by a company that rents out bicycles that you can ride along the old towpaths.

I love the background/history you share with your photos. It really makes them come alive.

Learning so much about your country, Heather and all its wonderful historic buildings. Thanks for the great pics and the history lessons! The framing on this one is very nice.

@lornahw Thanks Lorna, not sure it would be big enough for an observatory.
