About 4 weeks ago I scored tickets to the National Zoo in D.C. My membership gives me free parking which is 30 bucks. They have very limited tickets for member parking. I didn't realize the ticket would put me there on Xiao Qi Ji first birthday and the zoo was celebrating with frozen fruit treats for the pandas. Xiao Qi Ji means “little miracle” in English and being born in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic and to a mother Mei Xiang who was 22-years-old and had a less than 1% chance of giving birth to another cub. What a perfect name.
It was so nice being back at the zoo. Whenever I couldn't socially distance I put on my mask, which I also did at the county fair. It's hard to know what we should be doing with numbers rising and even the vaccination not stopping the transmission.

Mei Xiang is such a fabulous mother. Lucky you. We just cancelled September’s trip to Maryland and beyond d/t rising numbers. It is so freaky and so hard to keep my anger at antivaccers at bay
