Cooling At The Waters Edge

Went out on the kayak today and as I was coming back into shore I noticed this bird. I hadn't seen him at the lake before. He was very vocal and seemed to be enjoying himself. I went to the car and switched to my long lens hoping he'd stay put and miraculously he did. Facebook friends all seem to think he is a Killdeer which is in the Plover family.
The Plovers are always very screechy birds so this one is just a very fancy plover with his striped jersey!

The killdeer is a medium-sized plover.. one of my favorite birds. they lay there eggs on the ground normally in a rock bed.

Definitely a killdeer. They have their nests on the ground, and when someone approaches, they run on the ground in a different direction to draw the danger away from the nest. Did this one do that?

Great capture. We have these running around our area. No water around here either.

@cejaanderson no, he seemed to be just looking around. I think there are too many Canadian Geese that love this spot to put a nest but I could be wrong. He wasn't running away at all but finally flew off .

He looks so delicate. Well caught as they barely stop long enough to get any kind of image of them.

beautiful capture. Love Plovers and they can be very vocal, especially if they are protecting young ones
