On the other side of the elk preserve

We had Whitetails, the small deer so prevalent in Texas (estimates say we have 4 million Whitetails in Texas). I say small because an adult male weighs 150 pounds and a female 100 pounds. This is a doe that stopped to look at me and when I raised my camera, she was off!
Great capture

Well times and super colours !

She is just camera shy. Good capture anyway.

Wasn't she cooperative to give you a good action shot!?! That area sounds wonderful. Likely the white tail come around to partake of food that might be set out for others in the preserve? It's always funny to see mallards and crows dining with the flamingos in any zoo! They *know*!

@bkbinthecity @mittens @kwind @carole_sandford @beryl @henrir @claudiet @maggiemae @gijsje Thank you so much for the comments and favs! The deer are not in a preserve on the property, they roam the countryside. There must be a good reason the elk were in a fenced preserve, not sure what that reason could be. Elk are certainly not native to Texas like the Whitetails, perhaps it's to make sure they only mate with elk cows.....I'll have to check on that!
@Weezilou The Whitetails eat anything they want to, there is an 8' high fence around the elk and the Whitetails can't jump that. I'm going to call the cabins and find out more about the elk!

A terrific action capture! Timing is perfect.

Lovely shot. I had to read this twice because white tails here are spiders and are quite nasty spiders too.

Good shot. Whitetail deer are so common here everyone is sick of them! And they ruin gardens and raid bird feeders too- so they are doubly unpopular. Still when a doe and fawn appear in the woods behind my house, I can't help but emit a gentle, "awwwww" at how cute the babies are.

Fantastic capture, Lou Ann! As you know from viewing my photos, the deer are always welcome on our property . . . even when they eat every last bit of bird seed in the feeders. :-)

@taffy @onewing @olivetreeann @gaylewood I'm not positive, but I think they raised the hunting limit on Whitetails in Texas, they have multiplied to the point they are a nuisance in some places. Friends not too far from us put frothed egg whites on their garden plant to keep the deer away, I've also heard Cayenne pepper. @onewing oh dear, a Whitetail spider?!

Catching these beautiful deer always brings me the biggest smile - it's always such a surprise (for both of us) when I come across some wandering in a clearing - love how you caught him in action. Pretty setting, too.

@gaylewood You and I would make good neighbors! I would have no objections to a deer in my garden, and as you know, I've made friends with raccoons even as people tell me to leave the pests alone! So sad that some people miss out on little joys if they were only more welcoming!

He looks like he is having a great time prancing around, he reminds me of my eldest daughter, she can't walk anywhere, she is always dancing or bouncing or skipping (it drives me crazy)

Love this image .... like how the tree provides a natural framing too :)
