The scientific name for this gorgeous shrub is Pyracantha. They grow so well here, beautiful all year long. Tiny white flowers in the spring and these bright red berries in the fall and winter. The birds love the berries! In the fall these branches look beautiful in vases, they have serious thorns and you have to be so careful when you cut them.
Beautifully captured, Lou Ann! I have a love/hate relationship with the firethorn shrub. As you say, they're so beautiful all year round and the berries attract so many different birds (the mockingbirds absolutely love them) but I've been careless several times and scratched by those sharp thorns and it brought on an irritating rash. As I say, I love the beauty of the shrub but hate those sharp thorns. :-)
