The pruned Pampas Grass, Cat Tails and bare trees

DFW Airport allows it’s unused land around the airport proper to remain overgrown with no real land management in place. Lori’s office is across a road that runs along one edge of the airport property. We were at her office last Friday and could see the overgrown scene here. In front of the airport property fence you can see Pampas Grass that has been pruned (those grass humps in the foreground); I’m sure the city requires the land outside the airport fence to be maintained. Directly behind the fence were the tallest Cat Tails I’ve ever seen, they were easily 15 feet tall and behind them was a bare tree. It looked natural and wild, I’m sure there are coyotes and all sorts of animals roaming freely in the overgrowth, I hope they stay off the runways!
Nice layering you have captured in the image. The Canberra airport has a very nice manicured garden and makes a great first impression of arriving in our nations capital.

@nicolecampbell DFW has two lovely entrances and each terminal has landscaping and public art. It’s property is 30 square miles, there’s a lot of land around the outside perimeters that is undeveloped. Probably in 20 years it will have used up all of it’s land with more terminals and runways.

A great shot with the different layers.
So good to see bio-diversity at the airport. And, yes, having the coyotes and critters would also be goo - I don't think they would scale that fence!

Nice collection of lines here-fat, thin and everything in between!

Pretty image... nice textures.

Most airports seem to do this! I'd imagine the mice and rodent type animals would make their home there!

Wonderful layered image, Lou Ann! Lori's office is close to DFW Airport and do you also live close to DFW?

What fascinating cattails - definitely never seen any this tall. Really glad to hear there is someone who isn't clearing all growth to the ground - that seems to be the plan around here these days. Sure aren't going to be any spider webs this spring - no where for them to weave! Like the way you've composed this.

yep mown grass is like dead grass in many ways - this must harbour so much life!

What an interesting capture Lo Ann, lovely light and horizontal layers:)

@gaylewood No we live 17 miles from DFW. Jerry has just retired (at the age of 77!), I took him to DFW so often for flights all over the country. I was always glad we lived so close!

I too love the layers and textures. Vey nice image! How nice for you that your husband has retired now. Any travel in the future?

Love the layers.

Lovely lines, better than a boring fence! 😊

This is a really good photo of all the different layers. Good job!

My thanks to each of you for your wonderful comments! I have to believe that this is a controlled growth situation to keep the top soil from eroding until it is time to develop this parcel of DFW’s land. The airport is very important to Dallas and Fort Worth and their suburbs, it brings so much money to our economy!

@365karly1 We try to get to Montana every other year, I hope we go back in 2019. I will sure let you know and perhaps we could do a photo walk!
