This collage shows just 3 of the early works of this artist, from the mid-1990’s. Her exhibit at the DMA spans these early works to today, her style changed so dramatically during that time. I will post a recent painting later!
Not only has her style changed, so has the opinion of what art is and says. There's a vast difference between a Rembrandt portrait and the first painting here. I like the variety of viewpoints- one more realistic, the other more about the essence as portrayed by color- but I do find myself questioning the depth of skill (my I sound pompous!! I guess the Fine Arts major of my undergrad days is coming to the surface again!) it took to paint these pieces. I still like them and think you have given them a nice showcase in this collage.
@olivetreeann I agree with you about her apparent lack of talent in her first works. When I walked in the first room that had her early works I was searching for something I really admired, there just wasn’t anything there. In the adjoining gallery her style was completely different. Certainly with touches of whimsy from time to time, but it had so much more depth and style. The museum did a great job of showcasing her work chronologically, with the last gallery light years ahead of the first. It really showed her growth as an artist. @mbrutus@nicolecampbell thank you!
