My book club is meeting in a new restaurant now, this was the first meeting of the club year. Our reviewer reviewed the book “The Library Book” by Susan Orleans. What a great book!
Everyone was so glad to see each other after the 3 month summer break, it took a while to get us focused on the program. Ha!
Lovely record of the meeting so much going on, I can almost hear the chatter from here, I can see you were taught at school to sit up straight to be noticed in the class, picked you out straight away Lou Ann, lol:)
@pcoulson funny you noticed me. My father went to a one room school house in Comanche, Texas, run by a ruthless dictator for a teacher. When dad was in the 1st grade she tied his left hand behind his back so he would write with his right hand instead of his left. When he was in the 6th grade she tied him to a board to make him sit and stand up straight. He was already over 6’ and he slumped over so his height wouldn’t be so noticeable. He told me to hold my head high and stand up straight, never slump. By the 8th grade I was 5’ 8” and the tallest student in my entire school, but I remembered what dad said and I never ducked down. By the 9th grade I was 5’ 9” but several of the boys had grown taller, I was thrilled!
@photographycrazy@beryl@danette@mittens@ludwigsdiana@happysnaps@bruni@bigmxx@sarah19@carolmw@carole_sandford@happypat thank you all so much. Our club has book reviewers present books, then if we like it we can just buy the book or check it out at the library. There are quite a few book review clubs in the Dallas area as well as the clubs where everyone reads the book. Since the Resumé club is so old, I would say half of our members are too old to read very much, really. Our club size is limited to 50 members, we actually have a waiting list right now. I appreciate all your comments, thank you!
@gijsje we do have q & a after the review. There are a few of us who ask questions and make observations. It seems the majority just want to visit, though. There are some serious book clubs in our community, three books a month clubs, but I just don’t have that kind of time.
Wow that is a big book club..........I will check that book out!
You made me chuckle as I read your story, I remember in grade 8 my father measured me and I was 5'7", he said you won't grow any taller.......I had been complaining that I was tallest in my class.
So in grade 9 I grow another 1/2" making me 5'7 1/2", I remember being so upset with my father because he said I wouldn't grow anymore! Lol and today I'm still 5'7 1/2", it wasn't all that bad, and being tall has some advantages! :)
@louannwarren How interesting Lou Ann, my mother was left handed and whilst at school they made her write with her right, how education and teaching methods have changed, btw I was taught to sit up straight chest out and never slouch still holds well today:)
