I folded and stacked the 11 frayed American flags we’ve gathered over the last five years to take to the American Legion to be disposed of properly. We have such high winds that the flags on our tall flag pole only last about eight months. This is red white and blue turned noir and pretty seriously edited.
@ingrid01 we finally found a flag brand that can last the eight months, most of the other ones lasted no more than six months. I think it’s where our house sits on the cul de sac curve that causes the wind to whip around our yard.
Great processing. My son tells me that his town will give residents a flag. First I had heard of that. Our town has also devised repurposed mail boxes in order to drop off old flags that they will handle.
How good of you to do it the proper way - I always cringe a little when I see a tattered flag on flying on someone's flagpole that hasn't been replaced.
We had the same problem on our flag pole...perhaps ours weren’t as robust as yours, these look quite thick material. I just put ours in the bin. No flagpole here in the new place....no one else has one up & it might look a bit strange!
@farmreporter Since Jerry is retired US Navy, we are pretty careful about our flags. Our flagpole has a solar powered light that lights the flag at night. Our flags never touch the ground. He knows every rule of flag etiquette by heart. 🇺🇸
I have never had to replace a flag. The only used one we have is not tattered but it has special meaning to Jeff so it is folded properly and kept in the cedar chest. Love the edit on this!
So good that you replace your flags regularly. It is a shame to see frayed flags (and I see them way too often!)
