I love them. they're beautiful. we mustn't have the right soil for them. they don't do well for us. I read a comment where you said your husband overwaters your flowers. I did too and then my hubby bought a Rapitest Mini MoistureTester at a nursery and it tells you when the plant needs water.
You should wait before replacing your clematis, Lou Ann. It looks like a Jackmanii (spelling?) and they survive our winters just fine.
Cut it right down to the ground and you should see new sprouts springing up soon.
