The San Francisco De Asis Catholic Church in Taos, New Mexico

Photographer Ansel Adams photographed this church in 1929 and Georgia O’Keeffe painted it in 1930. They both chose to highlight the buttressed back of the church, this is that view. It is made of mud and straw clay called adobe, built between 1813 and 1816, so quite old. The adobe has to be replenished every year. I will post a few more photos of this iconic church over the next few days.
Amazing and so unusual building - -looking forward of more photos of this in the next few days !

How unusual! Are there windows on the other side? It must be like a cave inside.

@carole_sandford @happypat amazingly there are very few windows in this church! You will be surprised when I post the front tomorrow. I must read up on why there are so few windows!

I love this view and all the light and shadows you have captured! I am guessing the lack of windows is what helps to keep it cool inside.

Working back through the photos and saw the front first, but do understand why the painter and photographer chose the back.
