I purchased a sack of candy orange slices to use for the rainbow color and word today. They don’t taste like the ones I remember from my youth. Food memories are amazing really, because I remember how they tasted those many years ago!
The color is quite striking, maybe it's good they're not as good as you remember, you won't eat them too fast. I think it's odd how as one matures, sweets don't have the allure they did. I never could understand why my grandma said she didn't like candy.
They look pretty good even if they don't taste as good. I find that some of my favorite childhood candies don't always taste as good as I remember too. I think part of that is they are made with less and less "real" ingredients and more artificial ones now for longer shelf life and cost effective manufacturing. I used to love Twinkies and tried one a while back. The angel food cake was not as good and had an after-taste. The cream filling was more sugar than fluff. I decided to forget that one and hang on the memories of the ones from my childhood! Great start to the rainbow!
@eudora@grammyn@linnypinny@joansmor@theredcamera@sugarmuser@bkbinthecity thank you all so much for your great comments and faves! I appreciate every one. My mother made an orange slice cake that was so good. I always had the job of cutting up the orange slices into small pieces to go in the cake. So I probably ate more orange slices growing up than most people. There was another brand displayed next to the ones I bought this morning, I just may buy them to see if they come closer to my remembered taste memory. 😊
Perfect for orange! I plan to buy a real orange with my grocery shopping tomorrow... bad planning so I'm behind already.
Taste is weird in that way. I often think my memories improved the taste of things I loved long ago (or just cannot get in the place I live). Often it is a disappointment when I do get the 'treat' again.
i love the orange slices candies when i was young. the ones i found mostly were too sweet and didn't taste like orange, yes, rather questionable. i did find one at the chocolatier one time and they are exactly how i remember them, texture taste and sweetness, but boy, they were expensive.
