The origins of the area date back to the 1760's when the first rows of terraced houses were constructed for slaves being imported from Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. While technically not correct, they came to be known as the Cape Malays. Slavery was abolished in 1834. The population swelled in the area and those emancipated moved into the newer parts of Bo Kaap.
This will be another month of places that Katja and I visited during her stay.
Beautiful shot. Amazing variety of colours on these buildings. I have seen colourful buildings similar to these - not the architecture - in Ireland and I really liked them.
I would rather embrace the mistakes of history to afford change than to deny they ever existed and commit a whole new battery of them. I remember from your previous post that the colors came to represent freedom- now that's what moving on is supposed to look like. Good shot!
Nice shot
