an area of Cape Town formerly known as the Malay Quarter with Table mountain as a backdrop. It is known for it's brightly coloured homes and old cobbled streets. It is situated on the slopes of Signal Hill above the city center and is a historical center of the Malay culture here. Wow, transported me back to years ago when I walked that area. Brilliant colors to brighten the outlook. It's been too long since I was there guided by a local and I can't recall the exact reason why the houses are colorful but isn't there a political history behind it?
@jyokota You are right about reason for the colourful houses Junko. It is believed that when the Bo Kaap residents bought their houses, they decorated their homes with bright colours as an expression of individualism. After apartheid ended, they painted their houses in bright colours as a celebration of their freedom. :-)
