Look who came for his breakfast

and tucked into our lawn! Cape Nature has dropped off just over a hundred different orphaned tortoises on our estate. All kinds, shapes and sizes. This one is a Leopard Tortoise, about 120 years old and pretty huge. The huge ones like to cross the roads and go into gardens. It is wonderful to walk the trails and see these beautiful animals. Some are only the size of the palm of my hand.

Wow! Gorgeous!

That's a fun discovery unless you don't want them eating your plants. Was this new home part of a conservation effort in conjunction with your estate? If so, that's a great partnership!

@olivetreeann Yes Ann it is. You will not believe the state some of these huge old one are. This particular one has been beaten and his shell is cracked, another one was rescued from a balcony where he was chained. A hole was drilled through it's shell! We are so happy to have them roaming free on our 70 hectares :-)
