If you go down into the woods today... by maggiemae

If you go down into the woods today...

I didn't get a big surprise! But I got a wonderful and hard slogging trail walk through a newly opened track in the Herbert Forest. It's all bush and tall native trees with birdsong- tuis, bellbirds, tom tits, robins and we had a fantail that followed us down the track. It took 1 &1/2 hours, mainly downhill though there were some who took the uphill version. It is quite hard work being careful not to slip or put a foot wrong. The track was formed over 30 years ago but was closed for 10 years due to a suspect bridge over the stream. Today it was finally open to the public.
What a beautiful area to walk in and take photos. Nicely done, Maggiemae.

@tonygig @thendrix58 @davidrowe @darsphotos It was a good exercise for my camera. Should I have a hi Fstop? Told I should have at least 11. I found changing the exposure was very important. This place was very dark

I love the forests in NZ and all the mysterious birds and plants. It is another world for trampers
April 15th, 2012
@peterdegraaff and the serious trampers were there leading or being "tail end Charlie's"! With radio telephones and a base station!
April 15th, 2012
Oh good on you! This makes me realise how long it is since I've been on a tramp. There's nothing like a bushwalk to clear the head.
April 15th, 2012
@peterdegraaff @maggiemae @carolinedreams So fun to hear you talking about going on a 'tramp' through the woods! I thought that was a saying only found in my birthplace-Newfoundland! Great photo Maggie...

@lauraroy In Oz we say bush walking but they are kiwis after all
April 15th, 2012
@lauraroy @peterdegraaff I suppose a proper tramp is a longish bush walk- a few days walking with huts to sleep in that have handy rafters on which to hang sopping socks.

You captured a very lovely shot of your hike, Maggiemae! Lots of lush green vegetation and trees. I can only imagine the bird songs! Well done!

great shot, beautiful place, cool, lush, very relaxing
April 15th, 2012
What a great place for an adventurous hike! Seriously, that looks like a lot of "work" walking in there, so one must be in pretty good shape to do it! Good for you, Maggiemae. It's lush and beautiful and a great spot for photo ops...you got a great capture.

It looks gorgeous although I wouldn't be at all surprised to find some creepy-crawlies lurking in there :o) xx
April 15th, 2012
looks very adventurous
April 15th, 2012
@karenann Not in really good shape as I was so stiff today!
April 15th, 2012
@psychographer No snakes in NZ and no creepy craw lies in the bush - just nasty stinging plants!
April 15th, 2012
@woot we had guides with radios so there was no real adventures, thank goodness - I didn't want a broken ankle!
April 15th, 2012
nothing like a good old stomp to blow away the cobwebs! looks like a place full of interesting things to try and find!
April 15th, 2012
