One of the Beach races here at the BMC at Oreti Beach where Burt Munro also raced many times. This was an open class and there were quite a few starters! This race was followed by the "50 miler" - a race of 50 miles over the course while the tide was inexorably coming closer and closer!
Three good things:
1. The predicted winds of 100km didn't arrive till late in the evening!
2. Picked daughter and husband up from the airport in these winds and they landed safely on the second attempt!
3. Great fish meal in the bar! The whitebait season closes today!
Isn't it mighty hard work cycling on sand...sounds like a real challenge to me. Gorgeous& exhilarating place to be though. Oh goodness maggiemae , have just enlarged it & see they are motor bikes & of course your FIL was a motorcyclist...silly me & not as hard work as I thought! Great line up & I wonder if you presented the cups?
Wow that looks really exciting!! Great shot!! I remember having whitebait in a little town in NZ which was famous for it!! It was in an omelette in a large bun!! Fabulous!!
Bet those bikes kick up a lot of sand when they start the race! Great shot....oooo down on the second attempt! ...I would find that scary. Glad all is well.
