Hedge your bets.. by maggiemae

Hedge your bets..

This part of NZ is known for its beautiful and immaculately kept hedges! Encouraged for wind breaks and shelter they need yearly care. This property has taken that care and being of an age about of over 70 years old, it was probably planted then.

Three good things:
1. Put our apartment on Trademe for rent and had 300 views and at least 10 interested parties! Perhaps we asked too low a rental price!
2. A new author came up with a new story of Burt Munro and it is so well written, I am despondent with my manuscript! I am determined to liven it up without changing the unique nature of my mother’s writings somehow!
3. Mum loved the literary side of Britain and that will never change..stories and history will never change!
Very nice shot

This is great

Wow, this looks like a wall rather than a hedge!
June 25th, 2015
My word! That's a beauty - clearly been a labour of love!
June 25th, 2015
@judithg The whole front of the hedge curves up and down on the top! They must go out with the scissors every day!

That is one very manicured hedge. I thought it was a textured wall at first look. I would like to see it in colour, I imagine it would be quite striking.

@adayinmallacoota I did have one in colour - there was a lot of green as you could imagine but still good.

What a great mani red badge maggiemae, love that peep through to see the rest of the tree trunk.....a clever touch! Works beautifully in black & white I bet it looks stunning iin colour too but I do really like this b/w .

My goodness this must take some looking after!! You would have to be really dedicated to keep this in such tip top shape.
June 25th, 2015
@happypat Interesting - in the colour ones I took, you couldn't see the gate in the archway!

Awesome shot

This property is lovely all round it - its on a corner and the other side is just perfect! They probably would like to know that I took a photo of it! @pamknowler

Heavens... the hedge looks like a wall! I had to look twice to understand what I was seeing. Adorable little gate, leading through it, too.

@rosiekerr I would love to visit this house, wouldn't you, Rosie?
June 25th, 2015
What a neat peek shot!
June 25th, 2015
WOW I thought it was a wall at first
June 25th, 2015
So interesting! Just to think of all the hard work that's gone into this hedge over the years is quite mind-boggling!
June 26th, 2015
WoW!!! That's awesome!
June 26th, 2015
Terrific shot and the 'hedge' has the appearance of a rendered masonry wall.
June 26th, 2015
Neat shot, tones
June 26th, 2015
Oh my goodness! I cannot believe that is a hedge! Because of the black-and-white treatment it looks like concrete! Terrific shot of it Maggiemae!
June 26th, 2015
I ;also thought it was concrete.. wonder what it looks like in nature.
June 26th, 2015
@bruni I'll post a shot of in colour Bruni as there are others who are curious!
June 26th, 2015
This is such an interesting shot! It takes your eyes in so many directions. Looks great in black and white!

nice processing for the vintage look
June 26th, 2015
This has so many wonderful textures and lines.
I didn't know you were a writer -- exciting to think of creating a book based on family.
June 26th, 2015
Lovely processing, but I do have to agree with a couple of the others that it looks more like a wall than a hedge. There's an air of mystery here.
June 26th, 2015
Wow, so well cared for! Love the b/w.
June 26th, 2015
I saw the colour version first as I worked through my feed and think that the colour one really showcases the hedge.
June 26th, 2015
What an amazing living wall - someone is very accomplished at trimming it. Interesting textures in this shot.
June 26th, 2015
The B&W makes the hedge look like a wall. Interesting shot with the tree behind
June 26th, 2015
looks great in bAW as well
June 26th, 2015
This is a great exampleof a well kept and trimmed hedge. I have seen som e out with spirit levels when cutting their hedges so they can get it just right. I love this shot with the archway, the tree beyond, the roof textures and windows, a really pleasing composition. Fav

Hooley Dooley what a hedge and love the tree
June 26th, 2015
Totally amazed this is not concrete. I LOVE how you captured this interesting setting in monotone. Fav!
June 26th, 2015
@kelly2 Thanks Irene - I thought just as you did - the place deserves a mention in a tourist brochure!
June 26th, 2015
That is one amazingly trimmed hedge! It looks like it's actually a cement wall to me. Great shot!
June 27th, 2015
That is a lot of work to get it so close
June 27th, 2015
Love the textures and light and comp in this, there is something magical about it, fav.
June 29th, 2015
Amazing hedge - so perfect it almost looks like a rendered wall in b&w. Lovely processing.
June 29th, 2015
