The Old and the New by maggiemae

The Old and the New

Two houses, so different and centuries apart! I know which one I’d live in!

Three good things;

1. Learnt my hair is .03mm thick. John’s fancy digital measuring device.
2. Canadian born granddaughter arrived into the world after a long wait! So now we wait for more photographs and a name! I think I could become a loving grandma - remote but loving!
3. John and I were in a senior forgetful mood - just playfully - we had a list of things to do in town but then I said we will probably forget all of them and think we have just gone for a drive! But today, we did have to think! Only forgot two things!
I always forget to bring the list! Happy grandma times, even long distance can be fun on Skype! Your son & dil must be thrilled & lovely to have a sweet daughter! I like the old house!

Super shot.

@happypat The old house is made of Oamaru stone and although it has great character, its as cold as a morgue inside those sort of houses!

You've captured the lines so sharply. Well done. Congratulations on the new grandchild. We share your excitement with the birth of two babies this week -a grand niece and a whopping 11lb3oz grand nephew.

Wonderful comparison. I had a great-niece born on Sunday...in Canada of course!
Congratulations.

nice contrast and both buildings have beauty in them

So pleased to hear your granddaughter has safely arrived :) I would love to live in the new house, but I know hubby would prefer the old. Perhaps we need a tunnel !

Such an interesting juxtaposition of old and new! Fascinating to see the contrasts!
Congratulations grandma! Certainly well worth waiting for!

Congratulations, Maggiemae! Can't wait to see photos of your Canadian born granddaughter.
September 2nd, 2015
@grammyn Thanks Katy - I know the name now - Sabrina Quinn!
September 2nd, 2015
@gijsje As her father is extremely anti photographs, I'll have to ask his permission, Bep!

Great comparison

Nice contrast of architecture. I think I would pick the old house. So pleased to hear you granddaughter has arrived safely.
September 2nd, 2015

Congratulation on the arrival. Sabrina is a lovely name. it the other one her last name? looking forward to some baby pictures.

I'd live in the back house!!!! I don't care for the modern homes these days!! They look like a good wind could blow them down and they look so cold. Give me the sturdy house that lives for centuries and can handle a hurricane!!!
Congratulations on your new grand baby!!! How wonderful!!!! Let us know when she gets a name!!
FAV!

Great contrast of old and new. My grandkids are all way too far away too!
September 3rd, 2015
I like the old house, even if it is as cold as a morgue. Congrats to you, for baby Sabrina. Another baby girl for the world. :)
September 3rd, 2015
Wonderful sharp composition. Instant Fav
P.S. Congrats on the new granddaughter.
September 3rd, 2015
Thanks for sharing. Nice name Sabrina. Ha ha do have a list today to shop for. Must remeber where the list is before I go to town!
September 3rd, 2015
Old & new contrast is great. Congrats on the new grandbaby
September 3rd, 2015
Congratulations on becoming a grandma. Love to see old and new together like this.
September 3rd, 2015
@bruni No her last name is Munro - same as mine - funny that!
September 3rd, 2015
Congratulations for the photo and arrival of your grandchild.
September 3rd, 2015
Older house for me please. Wonderful news about your new Granddaughter. Forgetfulness! I tend to come back with a load of shopping and without the one thing I really went out for!
September 3rd, 2015
@thistle I have to look at the checkout slip to see if I've lost it or just forgotten! Sometimes if I'm lucky - its in the boot having fallen out of the bags! And .....no, its the modern house for me with double glazed windows for noise as well as efficiency plus the extra light into the house!
September 3rd, 2015
@deliad Thank you Delia! Actually I had little to do with the new grandchild - they did it all themselves - thank goodness!
September 3rd, 2015
@maggiemae That's fine then Maggie we would be neighbours!
September 3rd, 2015
@thistle Wouldn't that be fun - and fine!
September 3rd, 2015
i'd live in either one.....grandma.
September 3rd, 2015
Congrats and I like both.....nice contrast
September 3rd, 2015
WELL SPOTTED
September 3rd, 2015
I can't believe they got permission to build that modern block in front of that beautiful house. I had to look where you lived Maggiemae and can say that wouldn't get permission in the UK.
September 3rd, 2015
Great architectural contrast. I like them both for different reason. Most importantly, congratulations on your lovely granddaughter!!!
September 3rd, 2015
I would never get my shopping done without a list! LOL This reminds me of some areas on the Jersey shore where several styles of architecture can be all within the same block. To each his own as they say!
September 3rd, 2015
@ladymagpie The owners of the old house obviously sold off their front section and could have put a covenance on it if they wanted! Lots of beautiful old houses like this around our area!
September 3rd, 2015
It's a shame about the more morgen house being built in front of that beautiful old one. But.....what a dull world it world it would be if we all thought alike. Congrats on becoming a grandmother.
September 3rd, 2015
I like both houses for what they are.....as much as I am partial to modern architecture, I appreciate the styles of the past as long as they are done well, they are proportionate and harmonious, and blend into their environment! But, you are right, the amenities of a modern house are not to be discarded....love good lighting, big, weather and sound efficient windows, all of that good stuff. Very nice juxtaposition of old and new here...
September 3rd, 2015
Nice shot showing the contrast between the new and the old.
September 4th, 2015
I like the old house better as far as appearance goes, but wouldn't enjoy being cold in it. Your new granddaughter has a lovely name.
September 4th, 2015
The old house has much more life and character!
September 4th, 2015
I wonder what the owner of the older home thought when they built the newer home right in front? The older home has so much character while the newer one looks static!
September 6th, 2015
@skipt07 I'm pretty sure that owners of the old home subdivided their section and allowed this construction! Probably put a covenant on it for height restriction.
September 6th, 2015
What a contrast ,much prefer the old one though the newer one is probably easier to maintain
