In Auckland trying to be relaxed while working our way through endless queues of traffic just before midday! Our destination was Puhou and its pub, a lovely old historic building. Originally settled by a Bohemian lot ( now known as the Czech Republic)! The local river is a tidal one and at low tide has brown mud on either side - hence this sepia result!
Three Good Things:
1. We met up with daughter and husband who roared up in their convertible and parked where John had purposely put a road cone in the park. He removed it for them! Nobody noticed - there was a huge funeral in this very small village and I still don’t know who was in the coffin.
2. The name Puhoi is translated as ‘slow water’ and I’d have to say that is apt!
3. Went through a toll road and have to pay this online - its good if you remember the address!
that looks foreboding, like the aftermath of a flooding or something, or volcanic ash. the former i am quite familiar as coming from the philippines, i grew up experiencing flood especially during monsoon. the latter, i wouldn't know as I'd long left manila when they had that volcanic eruption 20-some years ago although i've seen pictures.
@summerfield You can see how high the tide comes up here by the landing on the side! They hire out canoes and you can go up and down this river! Don't think it floods though.
Good comments on here which I can't add to except don't go paddling!! Toll roads in NZ, what next! I didn't think there was enough traffic but then you are in Auckland. Toll roads in Ireland too but they are pretty quiet as well. Our roads are packed solid & as far as I know only one toll road round Birmingham.
I never seem to catch the tide right when I have been to Puhoi .. but it is such a quant little settlement .. steeped with history .. The Toll road is a bit of a pain I have a running account now so makes the job alot easier.. http://365project.org/julzmaioro/365/2015-11-28 This is the lovely little church just as you come into town,,.
I guess with so many natural disasters occurring here recently this processing has me thinking of what's left after flooding. Good to know that's not the case! But it must make for a really interesting contrast between low and high tide when you look at the water level here and the height of the dock. Interesting shot!
Love your processing on this. Ha, ha, MA here in the USA is switching over to all automatic toll roads and putting lots of people who used to take the tolls out of a job. Not fair. P:lys they are saying everyone has to have a thing on their car, transponder which we so far haven't gotten.
