Home now and... by maggiemae

Home now and...

we purchased these fire bricks having researched them. We bought 2400 and if we had them going all day, would use about 9. They are made from compressed sawdust. Found they handle the heat well and not getting so hot as timber. Easy to store and carry.
Thankful for:
A pleasant day making a slideshow of my photos of our time away for the other members of our travel escape.
That’s interesting would they work out around the same cost as wood ?

Oh, those sound wonderful!

@Dawn Its difficult to compare - the bricks are delivered and in stacks. The firewood has to be cut, delivered, stacked etc. I think the bricks are so easy, John's doing a spreadsheet of course so we will find out!

Looks cosy. Are the fire bricks used in a normal wood burner fire?

Your fire looks so cozy! Those bricks look like a wonderful way to keep warm. So more and more manageable then firewood

@onewing Yes, just like most of the log burners out now! No open fires.

A friend of ours has a woodshop where he makes stair treads. He started having someone make these from the oak sawdust he uses to make the treads. He gave a few to try in our fireplace but they didn't do very well. I am guessing they do better in wood burners like yours that the air getting to the bricks is more restricted. Even with shutting the glass doors on the front of our fireplace the bricks more or less smoldered than burned.

@skipt07 that may be true - we are not allowed to have open fires now, though!
