@yonnie Hint: Place your mirror in the shade so that it reflects your light and shadow composition and find the best angle in which to stand to get the best shot, and zoom in on your reflection. Thank you for your kind comment, Yvonne!
@sharritta Thank you so much, Sharon! My old photography professor loved high contrast shots and that's what he pushed! He said that only shades of gray made the shot "flat" and uninteresting. He said that pure blacks in the shadows and pure whites in the highlights made for crisper and more interesting black and white shots. So, that's what I do. Not every color photo looks good converted to black and white. To me, they look like a muddy mess of grays. So I try to think in black and white and look for contrast with the light and shadows. Red or blue or green is just going to end up a shade of gray. Make sense? Some people really like just the shades of gray though, but that's not how I was taught so many, many years ago back in college photog classes.
@sassik Thank you very much, Sassik! LOL! I learned the hard way by turning in a "flat" shot for my first assignment only to be made a bad example of in class. It only took one time and I never turned in a 'flat" shot again!
@amandalomonaco LOL! Well I am a bit of old fashioned kind of gal. Thank you, Amanda!
@hasselhotch You are a sweetheart for saying all of that, David! Thank you very much!
@mantha Aww! Thank you, Sam! You are welcome here anytime as long as I'm still in it!
Your home was made for these B&W shots, Maggie! Beautiful shade and ripples of light ...very lovely lighting. I have got to start catching these lighting photos in the morning or evening. Thanks for sharing this great lesson.
@janturnbull Me, too! Thank you, Janet! You are too kind!
@karenann Such wonderful comments, Karen! You are too kind and too sweet, and I appreciate every single word you wrote, too! I have shot in the middle of the day, but I always shoot in the shade when I do. Thank you! Always enjoy your visit! Uhhh... what lesson though?
Love this shot mm. I think you're dead on with your thoughts about high contrast B&W's. Great use of light. Those pines make me think of my old home in Georgia.
@belphenstone You are very kind, Beau! There are many who, I'm sure, don't like my high contrast shots and that's okay. I do know a "flat" shot when I see one. Thank you for your lovely comments! I appreciate your visit. Where in Georgia? My father was from Forsythe County near a little town called Cummings. My grandfather had a farm there until he passed away and all the land was divided and sold off.
@daisy Thank you very much, Kathryn! Appreciate your lovely comments and visit!
@ronphotos365 I'm using Perfect Photo Suite's Perfect Effects for the conversions, Ron! It keeps my contrasts and deepens my shadows and I really like that a lot! Thank you for your kind comments and visit!
i missed this maggie, you have done some awesome monochromes, the light is dreamy (well it must have been early ...so it could still be dream time for some) and soft. shows your home off beatifully
@phil_howcroft I really appreciate your kind comments about my black and white shots. I am enjoying them very much once again. Been a long time! Thank you so much, Phil! Really appreciate your time to look at them.
@debsulzberger My bedroom window is the one next to the cedar tree, Deb. My little study/craft room/studio is the one on the left. It's a little house but I like it. =) Thank you for your lovely comments! Always appreciated!
